• Who founded The Black 411™?

  • The Black 411™was founded by
    Larry Spear, a former VP of
    Sales & Marketing for a major
    fortune 500 company and
    several Telecom companies that
    span a 20 year career in the
    Telecommunications industry.  

  • How was the concept
    formulated?

  • The Concept for the company
    began in 1993 when Mr. Spear
    was trying t find a Black owned
    company that sold Satellite
    dishes in Atlanta Georgia.  "It
    was when the dishes were huge
    and I figured if I was going to
    spend $4-$6K on a dish I wanted
    to do it with a black
    merchant"....."I became very
    frustrated when there was not
    an easy way to just pick up the
    phone to call and find a
    provider.  


  • How did The company get
    created?

  • With over 20 years of Telecom
    experience the team decided to
    try and come up with a
    profitable business model that
    would allow callers to simply
    pick up the phone, call an
    operator, and get the
    information they needed.


  • After several failed attempts to
    come up with a business model  
    the idea was put on hold, but
    the idea kept nagging at him, "I
    knew this was something that
    needed to be done, and each
    time I traveled and couldn't find
    the things I needed I just
    became more and more
    convinced this was a great
    service that could provide a
    benefit to the Black Community"

  • The company was finally
    launched  after changes in the
    Telecom industry  in 2004/2005
    led to the ability for alternative
    companies to provide many
    Telecom services.  But even
    after that it was not until 2007
    that the seeds for the company
    really came together and the
    dream became a reality.

  • Many people try to compare us
    to, or have us compete with, the
    Black Pages or the many On-line
    directories (as if there can't be
    more than one solution to help
    us find our businesses.
